Educational Psychology

An Educational Psychologist is concerned with helping children or young people who struggle with education with the aim of enhancing their learning and development.  Barriers to learning may include neurological, developmental, communication, social or emotional difficulties.

Educational Psychologists work with children and young people from birth to 25 years of age. Assessments, consultations and interventions are usually carried out within early years settings, primary and secondary schools and colleges.  They can also take place in home or care environments or anywhere where the individual feels most comfortable which may include a neutral setting.

What we do - using psychology in education

Airmed Psychology offers a range of services to support children and young people who experience difficulties with learning.  The work carried out is likely to vary as all children and young people have unique needs and circumstances therefore there is no 'one size fits all' solution. Instead, we carry out a holistic assessment of the child or young person which includes consultation with relevant adults including parents, carers, school staff and/or other professionals.

There is no expectation for schools to enter into lengthy Service Level Agreements with type, quantity and timescales of work being negotiated depending upon need. Each case or request will be assessed individually before work is agreed or proposed.

The range of services offered can include:

  • Direct assessments with children and young people
  • Consultations with educational settings staff, parents, carers, other professionals
  • Statutory work (in person and/or remotely)
  • Training, CPD and supervision for educational settings staff
  • School-based interventions
  • Therapeutic work with children and young people

Please refer to the Services section of this site for further details.
